Research - Audience identification

What are audiences, why is it important to know about audiences?
Audiences are the people that your product will be presented to. it is important to know your audience because they will be the ones that will determine the success of your product. it is important to know about the audience because with lack of an audience the artist will not be able to gain a success so adapting their music to certain music to fit  the audience, is necessary.

How might some audiences be categorised?

Audiences we are able to categorise by their...
- Age
- Gender
- Race
- Where they live (Location)
- Income

Advantage and disadvantages of categorising audiences

Advantage
-Allows you to make specific choices
- you are able to get an idea of what people are interested in
- you know what sort of product they would buy based on how much money they have to spend.

Disadvantage
- People might not fit into such categories.
- Doesn't consider that people are different despite having a similar job
- It doesn't consider peoples interest just their income and status.

Different genres have different audiences
Every genre has a certain group of people that are more likely to understand and listen to that sort of music. for example punk music anyone can listen to that but Punks will be more likely to be found listening to that on an ordinary basis. For example...

Pop- Females, aged 15-25, no particular ethnicity, working class backgrounds (unemployed, students, semi-skilled workers and skilled workers)
  • Rock- Males, aged 28-50, White ethnic background, working class background (unemployed, semi-skilled workers, unskilled manual workers and skilled workers)
  • Hip Hop- Males, aged 18-25, working class background (unemployed, semi-skilled workers, unskilled manual workers and skilled workers)
