Evaluation - Question 3
What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
.

It is important to receive feedback once the production has ended because it means that we would be able to see what our target audience things of our production, and see if there are any changes that should be made to make it successful. To gain feedback we decided to gather a group of people to come and watch our products aswell as look at our ancillary products, so that they could get the full experience. From the feedback that was gained we where able to make some adaptations to enhance the quality of the product.

Why did you put your work on youtube?
What did you learn from this audience feedback in terms of whether you created a conventional and successful music video?
Some general comments I received on Facebook and Instagram:
Positives:
" Clear these are highlighted throughout the music video"
" I like the use of a distinctive narrative rather than a cliché on, it creates adrenaline for the audience as they do not know what to expect"
Before beginning to create and come up with ideas about our music video, we had to identify and finalise our target audience, in order to make sure that the parts that where used to create a music video where all associated to the right group of people. We used questionnaires to connect with people and eventually identify our target audience, this allowed us to get to know the viewers and listeners better in order to make relevant decisions for our music video. This helped us with the following...
- The Genre - We eventually came up with the alternative R&B genre, we chose the song Papi Pacify by FKA Twigs, who is a niche artist, that is enjoyed by young adults due to her modern and unconventional way of presenting her ideas and beliefs.
- Gender- We made sure to not make our music video just for a specific genre but rather to target both genres both females and males. But naturally due to the artist being a female and the narrative having a more female viewpoint it would have been expected for the female genre to be more into the music than the male genre.
- Age - When thinking of age we decided that we wanted young people to listen to our song rather than the older people because they wouldn't understand the concept properly, but also due to the controversial content that may come with Alternative R&B we also didn't want to target it at kids under the age of 18. So we finalised the age group with 18-30 years old
- Ethnicity- When creating the idea, ethnicity was not a problem as we all decided that we did not want to direct the music video and song to a specific ethnicity but rather to every ethnicity out there, this appropriate as its made the music appealing to a larger audience.
- Occupation - The music video and the characters in the music video are all represent working class people, which would allow the audience to relate so we decided to do E1-C2
- Hobbies and Interests- Due to our target audience being 18-30 year old working class people it would be expected for them to have common grounds of interest such as the activities that the characters in the video are doing, such as dancing, sports, reading etc.
Questionnaire and Graphs
When we started the planning of the music video we carried out a questionnaire, so that we would be able to receive feedback in regard to the music video that we where creating. This helped as it allowed us to identify who our target audience was and also see what they where expecting to find in the music video. Creating a practise questionnaire was useful because it helped identify and come up with questions which where appropriate and understandable for people. Shortly after we completed the final questionnaire and gained feedback which assisted us during the making of the video, we where able to come up with final ideas on the topics that we where not so sure about, we where able to add more things that people stated that they would be interested. This is what my final questionnaire looked like...
-
When we received feedback we then created graphs to help us evaluate on the findings and see which where the popular choices.

How did this help you make decisions?
Asking questions and receiving feedback about the music video, was really helpful, because it helped us to identify the audience that we wanted to target, which meant that we where able to get personal ideas and suggestions from them, which helped us adapt our initial idea into something better and relatable. When it eventually came to the filming of the music video, we went along with the suggestions that where made by the audience so we made sure to consider the fact that the majority of the people that we asked found it more appealing if the artist was captured through the use of close ups and long shots. The questionnaire and the whole research process was really helpful because it put my group and I at an advantage, knowing more about our audience and their needs and wants.

Why did you put your work on youtube?
We wanted to be able to promote and share our product on global platforms, and we decided that YouTube was the perfect platform to hold our music video, it allowed me to gain viewers and comments from a large audience spread out on a global scale and verity of people, especially my target audience who gave me feedback.
Comments that I collected from YouTube
Positives :
"Video with a great concept and creative content well done!"
"I really enjoyed watching this, love the way the narrative unfolds in such a tense and unique way!"Negatives:
"I really enjoyed watching this, love the way the narrative unfolds in such a tense and unique way!"Negatives:
" At certain points of the video some of the lip syncing was not in time with the music."
"Some shots she is in are too dark, not allowing the audience to see her facial expressions clearly."
What did you learn from this audience feedback in terms of whether you created a conventional and successful music video?
Due to the positive feedback that was gained through the comments on the YouTube video, its clear to see that our music video was effective and conventional. Also with the minor changes that where identified eventually will bring our video greater success. We made sure that in certain scenes that where identified the lip-syncing was in time with the music, in order to make the singing seem more realistic.
Why did you put your work on Facebook and Instagram?
Other social networks that are just as popular as YouTube are Facebook and Instagram, big worldwide known social platforms which are used by artist by the lights of Beyoncé and Rihanna to share their latest work, due to the huge following that such sites hold. So I decided that I also wanted to be able to reach people globally with my product so that I could acquire their opinions on the music video also, I found that they where suitable social sites especially if I was looking for my target audience. once uploaded on these networking sites the music video would have been able to been shared by people who would then cause others to watch the video and share it eventually accumulating views and feedback. This theory worked as we where able to receive more than enough feedback. both on Instagram and Facebook
Some general comments I received on Facebook and Instagram:
Positives:

Negatives:
"its not always clear that the male characters are associated with the female character, It could of been portrayed in a clearer way"
"The shots of the female artist can be repetitive at times"

- Conclusion
Promoting my music video on different media platforms, allowed me to gain popularity and views from a wider audience than expected. it allowed me to gain feedback from all sorts of people from different parts of the globe which also gave my group and I an insight on how the music video is viewed by other people apart from those in our target group. Most of the feedback that was received was positive, the pessimistic feedback that we received was useful as it allowed us to see from someone else's eyes where there needed improvement. Overall It was useful to collect feedback as it would help in the future.

Planning- Editing
Introduction
Editing was a very important part of the production process, because editing allowed us to create an impact in the areas in which we needed to create an impact on the scenes which are need to be thought provoking. we have decided to use various editing techniques in our music video, so that the visuals can be more effective. compare to the edits that we used last year ours will be more advanced and we will use different techniques.
Fast Editing
we will use fast editing during the fight scenes to reflect the tension and to increase suspense for the audience. We will also use fast editing when each of the boys feel a connection with the tarot reader, to increase the adrenaline. Sias music video 'Elastic Hear' influenced our decision to use fast editing as fast editing is used frequently within this music video, when the female and male characters are dancing/fighting with each other which, builds towards the climax and makes the music video more effective. we also want our fight scenes to build towards a climax, allowing our music video to promote a similar reaction from the audience.
Slow Editing
We will use slow editing when the artist is performing to emphasise her importance, an to allow the audience to connect with her through her body language and facial expressions, we will also use slow editing to capture the three losing boys, and how their fate unravels. using slow editing to promote this will be more exciting and evokes greater emotion from the audience. we was influenced by Chris Browns music video ' Fine By Me' which also uses slow editing at the beginning to reinforce the artists importance and role within the music video, similarly, when each of his opponents lose, slow editing is used to establishing the artist power and significance in comparison to them. This was edited in an effective manner, which is how we want to edit our scenes.
Slow motion
Jump cut

Slow motion
We will edit particular shots making them slow motion to make our music video more appealing and exciting to watch for the audience. We will use slow motion during some fight scenes, when the characters punch each other to add emphasis and to signify the characters' determinism, and how they are willing to to do what it takes in order to win the artist over. We was influenced by David Guetta's music video 'Titanium' ft. Sia, which also consists of a narrative, involving slow motion revolving the main character. Slow motion is used towards the end when the character is escaping from the police, which creates tension for the audience. Therefore, we also want the use of slow motion to evoke similar emotions from the audience.
Jump cut
We will be using jump cuts before and during the four fight scenes. The jump cuts before the fight scene will include the artist signing and turning over the tarot cards. Also the jump cuts will show different parts of the fight and how it develops, but we will also be cutting to the artist singing after and during each fight scene. Jump cuts will enhance each of the scenes as it will increase the tension and suspense for the viewers. After watching Justin Bieber's 'The Feeling' music video, which also includes a fight scene that is portrayed through jump cuts, we was influenced to use jump cuts as it enhanced this music video making it look more effective and created more excitement for the audience.
Invisible/ Seamless editing
We will use seamless editing when the tarot reader is singing and performing as it is important to ensure that the audience can build a relationship with the artist, understanding who the artist is and what she is about, as she can be misunderstood due to having unique morals and ideologies. Therefore, a lack of shots and greater smoothness between the shots is more beneficial as it encourages the audience to focus on the artist without being distracted by different edits. After watching Justin Bieber's music video 'Love Yourself', which included invisible editing, and identifying the impact it had on an audience, we was influenced to use this editing technique. We also identified that seamless editing was less likely to be evident in popular music videos, however, had a positive effect where used, encouraging us to use it.

Album Title/artist: ‘Reaction’ by NYX
Project Manager: Fatma Mustafa, Marlyn Ukah and Carlie Cokell-Smith
Release Date: 30th January 2016
Product Overview:
NYX is a British songwriter and singer who began her career signing and performing three nights s week in Central London’s most prestigious and popular clubs and bars including GAY bar, ROADHOUSE and SCALA. As she become more recognized and her reputation grew, there was a higher demand from customers attending these venues for NYX to perform more frequently, therefore, she began performing six nights a week until one day her unique talent was identified by the studio director for Warner Bro’s Records, who decided to sign NYX to their record label. As a result, NYX started to perform in more well-known locations in London and outside London including the O2 Indigo arena, Barclaycard arena and Sheffield arena, as well as performing in other countries, including New Zealand, Switzerland and Spain. This increased NYX’S popularity immediately and within 2 years, she become globally identified by a mass audience, ages 18-28 from different ethnic and social background and developed a strong, international fan base. Due to this fame, there has been an increasing demand for her new album release.
The Album concept:
The concept of NYXs album Reaction, will be to connect her to her fans and the rest of the world, from ages 18-28, from different ethnic groups and social backgrounds, particularly those from working class and skilled working class backgrounds, who will be more likely to relate to particular ideas and the Alternative R&B genre. it will allow her to express her authentic self through the use of her music, which she also took a part in producing. The album reinforces NYXs ideas and beliefs, allowing people to get a clear picture of who she really is as a person. However we will ensure to make the album and its content appealing to the mass media, by including artist who are already in the spotlight. This album has not only just been created to increase her popularity but also to allow her to create a path for other niche artist out there like her, however we are creating the album to increase NYX’s popularity within the music industry making her more internationally and globally well known like other successful artists and boosting her star image. Moreover, this album will increase her chances of reaching top 10 in the music charts.

We think that Lady Gaga, Rihanna's and Owl Eyes album covers are different and unique, because they evoke interest through their darkness and simplicity which is what we want from our album. Therefore we will use these albums to help us cultivate an idea of what we want our digipak to look like when we start to create ours, as it is important that our album looks just as professional and engaging as possible.
What is the reaction we want?
The demographics of our target audience includes, skilled working class people of different ethnic backgrounds, particularly female, aged 18- 28 who an relate to the artist and the music video. We expect the audience and consumers to feel they have a clearer understanding about the artist what she is about, enjoying her music and being able to relate to the certain themes and ideologies she portrays throughout. In a way we want our audience to listen to NYX as a method of escapism, allowing them to escape from their problems. We are also hoping the target audience can build a different relationship with NYX, one that differs from other mainstream artists, as NYX is original and should be recognised for maintaining this quality.
How will we know it worked?
The number of sales, and the sale figures the album receives will determine the success of the album, allowing us to decide if the album is popular and appealing to a mass audience. We will also host a focus group allowing a group of consumers that reflect our target audience (aged 18-28, different ethnic groups, working class/ skilled working class) to look at our first drafts of our album designs and provide us with feedback, which will allow us to make the required changes and develop on the criticisms, making the final draft appealing and suitable to our target audience meeting their expectations and interests. Making the album appealing to the target audience is crucial, as this factor determines the ultimate success of the album, therefore, we will ensure we are fully aware of the information revolving around our audience, including similar products they like and what they like about it, their average earnings, their hobbies/ interests etc. Understanding these factors will help us to make an album that the audience will like and will be able to afford.
